Trades for Tomorrow is looking for experts in the following trades to help it provide a high level of support to apprentices registered through Trades for Tomorrow in the following five trades:
- 308A Sheet Metal Worker
- 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic
- 433A Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)
Who Is the Ideal Trade Expert?
- An experienced journeyperson with 10+ years of experience, a certificate of qualification in the trade and experience coaching and mentoring apprentices (may be currently employed or retired)
- A trainer at an employer who works with apprentices in the trade to help them complete their training
- A human resource professional who works with apprentices in the trade to help them complete their training
The Duties of a Trade Expert
A trade expert is available to Trades for Tomorrow staff to:
- Answer specific questions about the apprenticeship training program for the trade
- Provide advice on responding to questions or challenges the apprentice may encounter as she/he works through the trade
- Provide general advice on best practices to support apprentices in the trade
Support is provided to Trades for Tomorrow staff via phone, email or Zoom/Teams sessions. The Trade Expert is not expected to dialogue directly with the apprentice.
Support is requested when questions are received from apprentices and may require 15 – 20 hours of your time per year.
Compensation
Trade Experts receive an honorarium of $1,000 per year to provide this service to Trades for Tomorrow.
Mileage reimbursement is available in the event travel is required.
What We Need from a Trade Expert
- Current CV or resume noting his/her education, how long employed in the trade and when he/she received their certificate of qualification (if applicable), how long they have worked in the apprenticeship system
- If a resume or CV is not available, a summary of his/her experience is requested including:
- Date they completed their formal apprenticeship training (if applicable)
- The college they graduated from
- Their current or previous employer’s name and title
- Date they received their certificate of qualification (if applicable)
- Years of experience supporting apprentices in the trade
